So every day I am carrying, in addition to the keys and wallet and watch most folks have on them, the following:
- Sunglasses
- Regular glasses (I still have enough eyesight that they help in special situations like reading a sign in the airport)
- Cane
- iPhone
- Dumb phone
- Neckband headphones
- Sansa Clip Zip with headphones
- Flashlight
- external batteries for devices
- Plug and wires for charging devices
- spare battery for dumbphone
It’s a lot! But it’s hard to get through the day without this stuff. So, I pay a tailor to sew extra-large pockets into my suit jackets and my overcoat. It costs about $60 per jacket, but I only have a couple and they last me a long time, so the annual cost of this extravagance is tens of dollars, not hundreds. This is an obvious idea and I’m sure many have thought of it, but I just wanted to mention it as most Americans don’t have many clothes tailored (my European friends sometimes puzzle over this). Of course this only works for me because my job makes it natural for me to wear a suit jacket every day; if I were working in jeans and a t-shirt I’d have to think of something else.
